Melness

 

 

Melness Hall’s newly formed committee consists of 10 people. The building is an old school leased from Highland Council. The building consists of a main hall smaller than single badminton court, toilets, kitchen, store, meeting room. The house attached to the hall is in disrepair but not owned by the same people.

 

A structural engineer’s inspection gave the building a sound report, however there is extensive renovation work to be done and demolishing of ruined outbuildings.

 

An award of  £2500 from the Highland Council discretionary fund was granted to address maintenance and immediate needs - Electrics and work carried out to meet basic safety requirements.

 

Youth workers have been employed through the Community Council to initiate sporting and arts activities, Discussed with Lloyds TSB a 3 year funding package to secure the Youth workers posts. There is also an application to Lloyds TSB for Consultancy Grant to look at potential and needs of hall as a whole.

 

Hall is now being used by youths, mother& toddler, fire brigade, RC Church, Church of Scotland, Gaelic classes and community functions
