Time Management

Participants will consider what it is they are actually managing through `time' management, be introduced to approaches for analysing their use of time and prioritising their activities and tasks to use their time in ways that maximise their effectiveness at work and in their private lives.  Participants will also identify their own major time stealers at work and formulate action plans to overcome them.

Scottish Charity Accounts

This course looks at charity accounting requirements under the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006.  It will cover the different types of accounts - Receipts and Payments/Accrual accounts, with a detailed look at the format and content of each, using worked examples to show how the Regulations apply in practice.  It will also cover external scrutiny requirements (audit or independent examination) and reporting to OSCR.

Developing your Brand in the Voluntary Sector - Where to start and how to use it

This half-day taster course has been designed to provide a fun and interesting introduction to branding and how to use it to market your organisation.  In the workshop we will look at how to build up a picture of your organisational strengths to help you present key messages about your organisation with confidence.  This course is for those with no previous experience of branding, PR or marketing.

Staff Appraisal

This one-day course will assist participants build confidence and skill in performance review, deliver helpful feedback, encourage high-performance climates and develop staff.  The course will help experienced practitioners and those new to staff appraisal.

Freedom of Information and Data Protection

Data sharing is something that increasing numbers of organisations are asked to agree to.  What does the law say about using personal data?  When can you refuse to hand over information either to an individual or another organisation?  Public bodies are now subject to the Freedom of Information Act.  What sort of non-personal data is covered by FOI Legislation and are the rules about disclosing it different from data protection law?  This half-day workshop will help voluntary organisations navigate through the maze.

Demonstrating Success

This course is aimed at those new to the task of demonstrating success, will help participants to navigate the `fog' of strategy and assessment jargon and help them assess if their current or proposed indicators and measures will really demonstrate their organisation's or project's success.

Knowledge Management

This highly participative workshop will help you develop the skills of an effective knowledge worker.  It will examine the role knowledge plays in your organisation and how your organisation's performance can be improved through careful knowledge management.  This course is aimed at those who are involved in managing people, information, communication or learning and work in organisations where what's inside people's heads is the organisation's most valuable asset.

Disability Equality Training

This course aims to provide delegates with an increased awareness of disability equality issues, increase their confidence in communicating with disabled people and be aware of their organisation's legal responsibilities towards disabled customers under the Disability Discrimination Act.  This course is delivered in partnership between SCVO and Capability Scotland.
